The Two of Wands tarot card

The figure stands in an elevated position, watching the world below with a globe in his hand. He is obviously in a position of power, gazing at something that is of great interest to him. It seems that this person is finding a new vision in this moment, probably a new goal to strive for. The fiery identity of the Wands suit simply urges towards goals, purposes and ideas. This is the first card in the suit that tries to transform the initial motivation of the Ace of Wands into something more concrete, something that we can achieve in this world. We have mentioned the blue mountains in the background many times. In this card we can interpret them as the true goal, but the person is looking the other way, suggesting that the energy of this card has yet to reach maturity. The person obviously doesn't know his true goal yet, but he senses that he is ready to set out on an adventure. We see the red roses and white lilies on the stone wall, a motif we can also see on The Magician card, clearly implying some connection. The Magician card tells us about the application of the Will; this card has the same theme, but on a more mundane level.

On the card

A man in a red cap and a brown and red cloak stands on the battlements of a castle, looking out over a wide landscape that runs down to the sea. In his right hand he holds a small globe of the world, and with his left he grips a tall wand. A second wand stands beside him, fixed to the wall by an iron ring.

Below him spread fields, a town, trees and a long coastline, with mountains on the far side of the water. He holds the world in his hand, yet he looks beyond it, as if what he already possesses is not enough and he is wondering what lies further away.

On the stone wall to his left is a small emblem of red roses and white lilies arranged in a cross, the same two flowers that appear in the garden of The Magician. Roses are commonly read as desire and passion, lilies as purity of intention.

The card is a picture of planning and decision. The man has a secure base and real power, but he has not yet stepped out. The world is in his hand as a possibility, waiting for him to choose a direction.
