The Knight of Swords tarot card

This knight is literally storming forward on his horse, probably towards his enemies. We can see by the trees in the background that he is riding against the wind, and we can sense his idealistic and righteous, but also somewhat warlike and impetuous, nature. The energy of this card is also a bit violent; it seems that this knight is sometimes ready to fight purely for the sake of fighting, not for any real reason, perhaps just so as not to be bored. This violent trait mixed with his opinionated nature is a fiery combination. Violence doesn't mean only physical violence, but any kind of behaviour that insists on forcing one's opinions and attitudes on others. This knight is a complete representation of the air element. He has no inclination to be led by his emotions; he is interested in always being right and in showing the people around him that he was indeed right.

On the card

A knight in full armour charges at full speed on a white horse, his sword raised high above his head. The horse is in full gallop, its legs stretched out and its eyes wide, and the knight leans forward in the saddle, completely given over to the charge. His red cape streams behind him.

Everything around him is in motion. The clouds are ragged and blown, and the small trees in the background bend sharply in the wind. Birds fly across the sky. On the horse's harness and on the knight's cape we can see butterflies and birds, the creatures of the air, marking him as the active, forceful expression of the Swords suit.

The direction of the charge, straight into the wind, says much about the card. This knight does not wait to see where the wind is blowing; he rides into it with total conviction. The image is full of courage and purpose, but also of haste. There is no hesitation, and also no time for reflection, which is both his great strength and his weakness.

Upright

Feeling victorious, active and authoritative, brave, inventive, impetuous, heroism, taking up the challenge, persuasive, idealistic.

Reversed

Unrealistic, reckless, impulsive, foolish and hasty, domineering, overbearing, sarcastic, needs to always be right.
