This is the ultimate card of intuition, psychic power and tremendous insight, but also of daydreaming and getting lost in an imaginary world. This card resembles The High Priestess card in more than one respect. We see that her dress merges with the water beneath her feet, just as it does in The High Priestess card. These are two very watery and feminine cards that are all about mysteries, intuition, hidden knowledge and secrets. Notice how the cup in her hand is closed, as if something were hidden inside. Most of the activity here takes place in the background, in the subconscious. Like the other court cards of the Cups suit, this card also sends the message that we need to apply intuition in our lives.
On the card
A queen sits on an ornate throne at the very edge of the sea, with small pebbles and water at her feet. The throne is carved with figures of little sea children, water spirits, and topped with a shell. In her hands she holds a large, elaborate cup with handles shaped like angels and a lid that closes it completely. She gazes at the cup with deep attention, as if she could see into it. Behind her the sea is calm.
Of all the cups in the suit, hers is the only one that is closed. What it contains is hidden, and she alone seems to know it; this is the inner life of feeling and vision that cannot be shown to others, only sensed. Her steady gaze shows a mind that dwells on dreams and intuitions with care, not carelessly drifting among them. The throne stands on land, but the water reaches right up to her feet and her robe seems to flow into it: she is grounded, yet always touched by the tides of emotion. She is the loving, perceptive woman who understands others because she understands her own heart.
Upright
Dedication to home and family, a sensitive and empathic nature, adored and beloved, a motherly figure, caring about others, psychic ability, intuitive, compassionate.
Reversed
Dishonest, illogical, unfaithful, vain; be careful not to lose touch with reality.
