The Page of Cups represents a person so young that his emotions, feelings and instincts are not limited by outer restrictions and social boundaries. In a way we can say that this card represents children and their openness, or perhaps an older person with such traits. If this card does not signify a specific person, it usually brings the message that we are the ones who need this kind of childlike energy. The energy of this card is playful, intuitive and creative, but not serious and responsible, as we might expect from a child. This card can be a strong indication of pregnancy and birth. The card also carries a warning not to lose your head in serious situations.
On the card
A young man stands on the shore with the sea behind him, its waves rising in soft curves. He wears a blue tunic patterned with flowers and a hat with a long scarf that falls over his shoulder. In his right hand he holds a golden cup, and out of the cup a small fish raises its head and looks back at him. The Page regards it calmly, with a mild, curious smile, as if this were the most natural thing in the world.
The fish appearing from the cup is the key to the card. It is something unexpected rising from the waters of feeling and imagination: a sudden idea, an intuition, a message from the inner world. A more serious person might dismiss it or be startled, but the Page accepts it with openness and good humour. The sea behind him is the great source of emotions and dreams, and he stands at its edge, close enough to receive its gifts without being swept away. His soft clothes and relaxed stance show a gentle, sensitive nature. This is the card of the dreamer and the beginner, still learning, but willing to listen to what the heart brings to the surface.
