Card Meaning: Four Of Cups

Four of Cups

General

This card has a tone of deliberate solitude. The figure on the card is in a moment of self-reflection, maybe even to the point of self-absorption but he is not happy with his present situation. There is a hand offering to him a cup, symbolizing some sort of insight, gift or solution to a problem. He is just looking infront of him in three cups totally ignoring the offer. This card can be comprehended as a warning that we are maybe distracted and that we need to look carefully around, maybe there is something that we are missing, or perhaps we are taking lightly that which we already have?

A young man is seated under a tree and contemplates three cups set on the grass before him; an arm issuing from a cloud offers him another cup. His expression notwithstanding is one of discontent with his environment. Divinatory Meanings: Weariness, disgust, aversion, imaginary vexations, as if the wine of this world had caused satiety only; another wine, as if a fairy gift, is now offered the wastrel, but he sees no consolation therein. This is also a card of blended pleasure. Reversed: Novelty, presage, new instruction, new relations.
